Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) in Sri Lanka celebrated the first anniversary of their of ‘IGNITE’ Mentoring Program at The Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo on 27 November this year. The prestigious event was attended by Guest of Honour Saif Yusuf, Managing Director Expo Freight Ltd., with Ted Muttiah, SAGT Chief Commercial Officer as the keynote speaker.
WiLAT Sri Lanka Chairperson Gayani de Alwis welcomed guests and spoke of the global recognition received by the flagship mentoring program in its first year. The pioneering efforts of WiLAT Sri Lanka have now been adopted for roll out across the 16 other WiLAT groups internationally. She said
The IGNITE program fits perfectly into the WiLAT mission to bring together those who support talent and career development of women, and to provide a support network and mentoring opportunities for women in the sector, empowering them to become leading professionals.
Gayani reminded mentees that this was a golden opportunity for their personal and professional development and urged them to make the most of it.

Muttiah continued this theme in his keynote speech Developing Brand “I” in which he explained a framework for Strategic Professional and Personal Development. He spoke of actualising aspirations by identifying stepping stones to make positive gains.
The highlight of the event was the awarding of a scholarship to a mentee courtesy of the Lions Club of Thalangama North.
The winner, Dilini Yapa, an undergraduate from the University of Moratuwa, was presented with her award by Club President Rtd Brig Maithree Tennekoon.
