In 1934 a group of officers of the NSW Government Railways appreciated that to further their careers some professional study and wide ranging professional involvement was necessary.  They undertook correspondence courses from The Institute in London and, in so doing, formed a study centre for The Institute in Sydney.  After further negotiation with the Institute Headquarters in London, a branch of the CIT was formed in Sydney on 18 January 1935.

80 years later CILT Australia will celebrate the milestone throughout 2015.

They will be hosting a Future Focus event throughout the eight Sections within Australia.  These events will aim to provide direction for CILT in Australia for the next three to five years.  The Future Focus Series will end with a National Event in Canberra on the April 27th 2015. Dorothy Chan and Paul Brooks will join Australia for this significant and very important event.

CILT Australia will also be producing an 80th Commemorative Publication that will celebrate the past, present and future of CILT in Australia, as well as celebrate transport and logistics milestones in the country over the last 80 years.

If you have been involved in CILT in Australia or in any transport and logistics projects in Australia throughout the last 80 years the organisation welcomes your contributions to this publication.

The longest standing member, Hon Fellow Phillip Clarkson will celebrate 60 years as a member. To celebrate this individual milestone, NSW Section has developed an Essay Competition in his name that invites papers from individuals discussing the consequences of future transport innovations.
