I am Funmilayo, a citizen of Nigeria, a Chartered Member of CILT Nigeria, a member of WiLAT Nigeria, and I work at the Nigerian Ports Authority.
When and why did you decide to become a member of CILT?
I joined CILT Nigeria in 2008. My purpose of joining CILT was to become a competent professional in the transport and logistics industry (particularly maritime sector) where I work.
What are the benefits of being a member of CILT?
Being a member of CILT has given me a lot of opportunities. I have been able to acquire knowledge and professional skills in current logistics, transport and supply chain issues. I also had the privilege of traveling round the world to attend International Conventions since 2014 to sharpen my logistics, transport and supply chain skills required for the job. I am a role model to the young members of CILT. I have been able to mentor some Young Professionals in Nigeria Universities and others who are already working.
Access to electronic and paper-based materials from the CILT website and training programs has helped me to be an outstanding performer in my organization.
What difference has being a member of CILT made to your career?
Being a Member of CILT has helped me to grow in my career ladder. Access to electronic and paper- based materials from the CILT website and training programs has helped me to be an outstanding performer in my organization amongst my peers and in the maritime sector.
What do you think the future holds for you and CILT?
In future I want to become a consultant and a PhD holder in Transport Planning to make impact in the transport, logistics and supply chain sector. I think the future is bright for CILT as a leading global Institute for professionals in the logistics, transport and supply chain because of the opportunities and benefits that are available to members.
What message would you give to someone just starting out in CILT?
I encourage any new member who is just starting out in CILT to be committed, focused and determined to attend CILT global events to sharpen his or her logistics, transport and supply chain skills and to build personal network globally with other CILT/WiLAT Members.
