(CILT) Introduction to Logistics

Course Outline

An overview covering history of the Logistics, customer service, order processing, purchasing, operations management, transport systems, warehousing, information systems and sustainability. This is an introductory subject, taught at a very basic level – introducing the major areas of studies in the subject and how it relates to the economy. It introduces the language of logistics and the key concepts.

Course Objectives:

  2. History and development from physical distribution to supply chains, 2PL,3PL,4PL
  3. Customer service
  4. Order processing and information systems
  5. Purchasing
  6. Operations Management (making or doing things) a) Inventory management, b) JIT, SOP,TQM
  7. Transport
  8. Warehousing
  9. Sustainability
  10. Ethics in logistics

Learning Outcomes

The course is a “helicopter” view of the subject and introduces students to relevant texts, university courses, leading thinkers and practitioners in the subject as we go through the various parts of the subject.
