April 16th 2015 was the second European Supply Chain Day celebrated within the UK. This day helps celebrate the success of logistics as well as raising awareness of the great career opportunities that exist within this profession.
This year’s European Supply Chain Day included open days, a live Twitter Q&A and both children and adults playing Business on the Move.
Bill Acres FCILT, European Supply Chain Day Champion in the UK, said: ‘This year’s event has been a great success and I am thrilled that so many companies took the opportunity to celebrate and showcase the opportunities and capabilities of our profession. I look forward to building on this momentum in making next year’s event an even greater success.’
#supplychainday also sparked activities promoted through social media across Europe.
- CEO of Collect+ and Chairman of the CILT board Neil Ashworth answered industry questions live on Twitter.
- Collect+, Marks & Spencers and John Lewis challenged each other by playing the Business on the Move game. With Collect+ being the overall winner.
- CILT visited CEVA’s Logistics Centre of Excellence where CEVA invited employers and their children to learn about the supply chain and play the Business on the Move game. With the winning child taking home 3 board games for their school.
- CILT and PTRC organised a logistical office move relocating their office for European Supply Chain Day.
- RAF visited the CILT Corby Office to challenge staff members to the Business on the Move game.
- Cranfield University held The Final Project Scale UK Conference Scale: How To Secure A Step Change In Agri-Food Logistics Conference on the day.
- CILT corporate members were encouraged to provide a quote on the day about supply chain and logistics.
- The Logistics Institute also organised presentations for the local schools and colleges in Hull to raise awareness of the importance of logistics among young pupils for continued support of the initiative.
- Computacenter UK (Ltd) hosted an open day for students studying at the University of Hertfordshire. This involved briefings with its Supply Chain Services Director and UK Operations Director, as well as tours of its automated warehouse and IT configuration centre.
