At this stage of the pandemic many countries have imposed lockdowns to minimize the spread of the virus in the population. These decisions are creating known impacts, such as the inability to travel, but also unforeseen disruption. A decision to keep a port or warehouse open can be made without the realization that other lockdown decisions mean that that part of the network cannot operate.
This report from CILT Sri Lanka describes the very effective government decisions made to lockdown the country. It also identifies the issues that have arisen at ports, airports and in meeting demand for food products. The flexible response from the logistics and transport industry has been quick and innovative, but there is still major disruption in the supply chain.
