The CILT (UK) Level 5 Diploma in Express Logistics aims to support the large express logistics industry by offering this qualification as part of the Higher Apprenticeship in Express Logistics. The qualification also examines leadership and team working essentials supported by effective communication with the customers through sharing knowledge and good practice in logistics operation.

The qualification covers eight mandatory units.

Provide leadership for your team in logistics operations

This unit is about providing leadership for your team. It deals with planning team’s objectives, motivating team members, communication and steering the team through difficulties. This unit is relevant for team leaders, supervisors and managers working in logistics operations. Team leaders, supervisors and managers could, for example, be working in warehousing and storage, transport or freight forwarding.

Analyse information on the supply chain

This unit is about analysing information on the supply chain. It deals with collating and analysing data. It involves using appropriate techniques, identifying problems and providing results. This unit is for supply chain practitioners. This could, for example, be in purchasing, the supply chain, freight logistics operations or transport management roles.

Manage contracts in supply chain management or a logistics operation

This unit is about managing contracts in supply chain management or a logistics operation. It deals with negotiation, contracting, managing risk and contingency planning. This unit is for managers and leaders who have operational responsibility in supply chain management or a logistics operation.

Manage business processes in supply chain management or a logistics operation

This unit is about managing business processes in supply chain management or a logistics operation. It deals with the principles of effective processes, sustainable measures, the difference between outputs and outcomes, processes for change and problem-solving. This unit is for managers and leaders who have operational responsibility in supply chain management or a logistics operation.

Build own organisation’s understanding of its market and customers in supply chain management or a logistics operation

This unit is about making sure that relevant and reliable information about the organisation’s market and customers is constantly available and shared. This unit covers information and communication within the workplace and how factors such as technology, cultural differences and policies can impact upon them. Learners are required to analyse their own communication skills and those of others within their organisation, evaluating the effectiveness and suggesting plans to improve them.

Share knowledge and good practice

This unit is aimed at those in a wide range of settings. The unit requires learners to demonstrate that they can plan and carry out the sharing of knowledge and good practice, learn from others and evaluate how effectively knowledge and good practice has been shared.
